Motherboard and VigiTrust organise Data Security Seminar

On the 20th October Motherboard and VigiTrust jointly organised a seminar on data protection in the Stephen's Green Hibernian Club. Entitled 'Data Protection on Premises and in the Cloud - Everybody's Business', the seminar was held under the auspices of the 'Club des Affaires' - the business club of the Ireland France Chamber of Commerce. With keynote speakers Billy Hawkes (the Irish Data Protection Commissioner) and James Lyne (Senior Technologist with Sophos), the seminar was sponsored by Sophos and Renaissance - two major players in the provision of IT security software!

Billy Hawkes took the audience through the requirments of the Data Protection Act, giving an Irish perspective on data protection and listing some of the upcoming changes in the EU Data Protection requirements. If you would like to view the presentation by Billy Hawkes please click here.

Mathieu Gorge took the audience through the hot topics of Process, Compliance and Learning - VigiTrust style! He talked about ISO 27001 (the data protection standard), PCI DSS, Data Classification and the international legal framework concerning data protection. Eoin Scott took the audience through the methodology behind on premises infrastructure protection. He talked about securing hardware infrastructure, business continuity and disaster recovery planning to assure data protection and availability. For Eoin's presentation, click here.

James Lyne took the audience through a graphic tour de force of Endpoint and On-Premises Data Protection. He demonstrated how hackers threaten your security - giving us an anatomy of the attack. He finished by giving simple guidelines on how to protect data. For more details, click here.
